Wednesday’s football tips: Cunha worth a shot at 11/8 as Red Devils battle struggling Burnley

It has been a whirlwind few days for Manchester United and it will be fascinating to see how the players react when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor tonight.

Ruben Amorim’s exit seemed inevitable after his incredible press conference on Sunday and he was duly axed the following day.

Darren Fletcher has taken caretaker charge while the Red Devils search for Amorim’s successor and he will be looking to keep United in the race for a top-four finish by beating the Clarets.

Burnley vs Manchester United top betting tips

A poor run of form didn’t help Amorim’s cause, with the Red Devils winning just one of his final five games in charge.

Even that victory over Newcastle was rather fortuitous but the bookies still make United odds-on favourites tonight at a best 8/11 with 888Sport.

That’s because Burnley sit second bottom after going 11 games without a win but Manchester United have been so unpredictable that it’s best steering clear of backing a winner.

The player markets offer more value and Fletcher will look to Matheus Cunha for inspiration. The Brazilian scored their weekend leveller at Leeds and is a decent 10//11 at Paddy Power for a goal or assist tonight.

I’m more drawn to the 11/8 on offer at Unibet for Cunha to have over 1.5 shots on target as he should get a few sights at goal against a defence who have conceded five times across their last two outings.

Manchester City vs Brighton and Hove Albion

Manchester City haven’t made the best of starts to the new year, with back-to-back draws seeing them fall six points behind Arsenal in the title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side shipped a stoppage-time leveller at home to Chelsea on Sunday and will be looking to bounce back when Brighton come calling tonight.

The Seagulls ended a six-game run without a win by beating Burnley at the weekend and have a good record against City, going three unbeaten in this fixture.

BTTS and over 2.5 goals came up in all three of those matches so it could be worth a punt tonight at 10/11 with Coral, especially with Guardiola missing key players in defence.

The City boss will probably freshen things up a little and Jeremy Doku could start after coming off the bench in the last two games.

The Belgian winger was in great form before picking up an injury and looks good at 11/10 with William Hill for a goal or assist.

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa are also hunting down Arsenal at the top of the Premier League and a win at Crystal Palace tonight would see them move three points behind the leaders.

The Eagles have been a bogey team for Unai Emery’s men, going six games without defeat in this fixture.

Villa have lost 4-1 and 5-0 on their last two visits to Selhurst Park but Palace’s form has been terrible in recent weeks, with the squad running on empty.

It’s now seven games without a win for Oliver Glasner’s men so this is another game where it’s probably best steering clear of betting on a result.

Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta ended his scoring drought in Palace’s last home game as they drew with Fulham. The target man is always a threat so could be worth a punt to score or assist tonight at 13/10 with Paddy Power.

Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara is usually decent value for a card and has picked up five yellows this term. He’s 11/4 at SkyBet for another tonight and doubling that up with a card for Palace’s Will Hughes pays 114/10 at BetMGM.
