The Golden State Warriors will be without their star point guard Stephen Curry for at least a week due to a quad contusion. The injury happened during Wednesday’s home game loss to the Houston Rockets when Curry attempted to take a charge on Amen Thompson with 3:24 remaining in the fourth quarter. Curry left the game in the final minute of regulation, but the team believes he avoided significant issues.
“When I heard it was a quad, I was actually relieved,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said postgame. “Better than an ankle or a knee.”
The Warriors currently hold the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings with an 11-10 record, having split their last 10 games. Curry will likely miss several games, returning to the floor in early to mid-December.
Curry is having another productive season, averaging 27.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.7 rebounds, shooting 47.1 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from three-point range. He has scored 20 or more points in 11 of his first 16 games, including three 40-point performances. Curry’s 13 career games with 40 points after turning 35 broke a tie with Michael Jordan and is only behind LeBron James (15).
His absence will increase the roles of both Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green as playmakers and primary ball handlers. Butler is expected to take on the leading scorer role, having scored 24 points in Saturday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
