The Tush Push Stays: What It Means for Betting on the Eagles in 2025
The controversial “Tush Push” play—also known as the “Brotherly Shove”—is here to stay, at least for another NFL season. A proposal to outlaw the play for the 2025 campaign failed to gain enough support among owners, meaning the Philadelphia Eagles will continue utilizing one of the most effective short-yardage strategies in football.
Philadelphia has made the tush push a staple of its offense, deploying it more than any other team in the league. With Jalen Hurts under center, the play boasts an 87% success rate and has been nearly unstoppable in critical situations.
Despite the announcement that the play won’t be banned, sportsbooks have yet to significantly adjust their futures odds for the Eagles. Their 2025 Super Bowl odds remain at +650, and they’re -135 favorites to win the NFC East—second only to the Ravens in division favoritism across the NFL. The only notable movement came in their projected win total, which shifted from +100 to -115 to exceed 11.5 wins.
Why the Tush Push Matters
Since 2022, Philadelphia has used the Tush Push 122 times in short-yardage scenarios, converting 105 of them for 30 touchdowns. Its effectiveness not only gains yards but changes the way defenses must prepare, allowing the Eagles to take more strategic risks on earlier downs. That flexibility makes them difficult to stop and amplifies their offensive versatility.
On top of that, the continued legality of the play has boosted Jalen Hurts’ NFL MVP odds. Previously listed at +2500, he is now +1700 at most major sportsbooks. Hurts has scored 65 rushing touchdowns since 2020 across regular and postseason games, and no player benefits more from the Tush Push than he does.
While Hurts finished as the MVP runner-up in 2023, some skepticism remains about whether he has the elite passing ability to outduel the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, or Lamar Jackson, especially with a difficult 2025 schedule looming.
Best Eagles Futures Bets for 2025
One bet that offers intriguing value is the Eagles under 11.5 wins at -115. Although the Tush Push bolsters their offensive outlook, Philadelphia is staring down one of the league’s most brutal schedules next season.
The Eagles open with a divisional clash against Dallas, followed by a stretch that includes four straight games against 2024 playoff teams—including a road trip to Kansas City in Week 2. Seven of their first nine opponents reached last year’s postseason, including primetime matchups against Green Bay and Detroit.
Their end-of-season stretch is equally daunting, with four of their final five games coming against top-11 Super Bowl contenders. That includes two contests versus the improved Washington Commanders and a challenging December trip to Buffalo to face the Bills.
Philadelphia will become the first team in NFL history to play seven road games against teams that made the playoffs the previous year. They’ll face off against both the AFC West and NFC North—two divisions that sent a combined six teams to the postseason in 2024.
Even a healthy Eagles squad could struggle to clear 11 wins in such a gauntlet of a season. Despite the edge provided by the Tush Push, making a deep playoff run will be no small feat. Historically, defending Super Bowl contenders often falter the following year—17 of the last 59 champions missed the playoffs altogether, while five others were eliminated in the Wild Card round.
Verdict
There’s no denying the tactical advantage the Tush Push provides, but bettors should be cautious. While Hurts may be a sleeper value for MVP, Philadelphia’s schedule and increasingly competitive division suggest the better futures play could be fading their lofty win total. Look for value in betting under 11.5 wins, and proceed with caution in Super Bowl and divisional markets.
