MLS’s investigation into Ernst Tanner faces delays due to worries about non-disclosure agreements, according to Guardian sources.
Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner remains under Major League Soccer’s investigation and is still on administrative leave, with no imminent resolution, multiple sources informed the Guardian last week.
Tanner was accused of extensive misconduct, including a complaint by the MLS Players Association alleging numerous instances of racist, sexist, and homophobic behavior, as revealed by a Guardian investigation late last year. Following the Guardian’s report, the Union placed Tanner on administrative leave, and MLS reopened an investigation into his conduct that had been closed earlier in 2025 due to insufficient corroboration. Tanner has denied all allegations, expressing his intention to fully cooperate with the league to “[clear] my good name and reputation”.
