Partnership with tech giant aims to captivate younger fans while pursuing broader strategic objectives.
This World Cup year sees Fifa taking swift action. Recent weeks have witnessed numerous announcements, including a data collaboration with Opta for enhanced betting, the Fifa Pass to expedite US visa processes this summer, and the introduction of the official Lego World Cup trophy. Among these initiatives, a notable agreement with TikTok stands out, enabling digital creators to have prime access at the 104-match event.
Fifa’s partnership with the short-form video platform aims to make “the most inclusive event in football history … even more accessible”. TikTok’s global head of content, James Stafford, states it will engage fans “closer to the action in ways they can’t get anywhere else”. This will involve offering online influencers behind-the-scenes access, as well as archive and highlights footage for their content. In return, TikTok anticipates a surge of posts to make the World Cup omnipresent for its users.
