‘The Governess’ has averaged 9/10 correct final chase answers but the newbie Chaser Darragh Ennis is hot on her heels, with 63 wins in just 81 appearances.

With an impressive three million viewers, The Chase has cemented its place as ITV’s third most-watched game show of the year. The beloved 5pm quiz show pits contestants against a formidable professional quizzer, known as ‘the Chaser’, who tries to stop them from winning a cash prize. 

But the big question remains: who is the ultimate Chaser on TV? 

New research by online casino Betway analyses factors like accuracy, win rate, and highest target caught, to rank the best Chaser of all time.

The Chase’s ultimate Chaser

Topping the ranks as the best Chaser on TV is Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty. With 467 appearances and a win rate of 79% – the joint highest of any Chaser – it’s no surprise she’s regarded as the most formidable opponent.

In the final chase, Hegerty averages 13 correct answers in the 60-second timeframe, with an average target of 19, the second highest among her peers. Her highest chase target caught stands at 26 questions, also tied for the top spot, cementing her status as the most successful Chaser overall.

In second place is ‘The Beast,’ Mark Labbett, boasting a 76% win rate across 475 episodes. Despite trailing slightly behind Hegerty in wins, Labbett holds the record for the highest average target to beat, at 20, and the highest accuracy in the final chase, answering 83% of questions correctly.

His average of 20 correct answers in the 60-second chase is unmatched, showcasing his dominance in the final round. Labbett’s average Chaser win total stands at £13,844, the second highest amount ‘stolen’ from contestants.

Coming in third is Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, with a 78% win rate across 436 appearances. His average target to beat is 19, with a highest target caught at 24 – just behind Hegerty and Labbett.

However, Sinha boasts the highest average Chaser win total, raking in £14,651, making him the most financially successful chaser on the show.

Darragh Ennis, despite having only 81 appearances so far, holds a solid win rate of 78% and a highest chase target of 23. With more appearances, Ennis may soon give ‘The Governess’ and ‘The Beast’ a run for their money, as he continues to prove his prowess in the chase.

1. Average target to beat chaser – This is the average target which in the final chase ends up winning against the given chaser, here the higher the target it takes to beat the chaser the better the chaser is.

2. Chaser accuracy – Is the percentage of questions the chaser answered correctly in the final chase.

3. Chaser speed – is the number of questions per minute the chaser answered in the final chase.

4. Chaser win rate – is the percentage win rate that that chaser has in the final chase.

5. Average chaser win amount – is the total amount of money the chaser has won on the show, meaning the amount of money that in the final chase the chaser has won from the team divided by the total number of shows the chaser has appeared on. Here the higher number is better as a team with more money in the final chase should be better and therefore a chaser with a higher amount won would have to beat more good teams.

6. Highest target caught – This is the highest target that the chaser has caught in their show history in the final chase.
