The Sports Betting Alliance (SBA), advocating for safe and responsible sports betting in the US, has announced a new president and CEO. The alliance considers this leadership change to be at a “crucial time” for the industry.
Joe Maloney Joins as President & CEO
The SBA has appointed Joe Maloney as the new president and chief executive officer. He is recognized as an experienced industry leader with extensive expertise in public affairs and a strong commitment to regulatory compliance.
Maloney has over 20 years of experience in sports, gaming, and tech sectors. Before joining the organization, he was the senior vice president of strategic communications at the American Gaming Association (AGA).
While at the AGA, Maloney was instrumental in shaping the narrative around regulated gaming and played a key role in the launch and expansion of Play Smart from the Start, a responsible gaming platform.
As the SBA president, Maloney will oversee industry-wide communications, strategy development, and partnerships. He will work on establishing collaborations with industry stakeholders, regulators, and policymakers to enhance integrity, player protection, and the overall industry health.
Kudon Becomes Chair of the SBA
The current SBA president, Jeremy Kudon, will transition to the role of chairman. He will lead the association and support its legislative efforts across the US.
Kudon’s eight-year presidency will conclude. During his tenure, he spearheaded numerous nationwide campaigns to legalize sports betting, aligning with the SBA’s goal of providing legal, transparent, and responsible betting products nationwide.
Similar to Maloney, Kudon is a seasoned industry leader with a significant background in sports and sports betting.
Maloney Joins the SBA at a Crucial Moment
Kudon welcomed Maloney’s appointment, praising his deep understanding of gaming and strong leadership abilities. He noted that Maloney’s established relationships made him an ideal fit for the SBA team.
Maloney expressed his enthusiasm about joining the alliance at this critical time for the sports betting industry.
Legal, regulated sports betting and iGaming provide meaningful consumer protections, enhanced integrity monitoring, and economic benefits to states, bringing previously shadowed activities into the light. I am eager to collaborate with stakeholders nationwide to bolster and ensure the long-term success of the industry.
