Xabi Alonso supports ‘really special player’ to shine
Arne Slot has stood by Florian Wirtz ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid, stating the £116m signing has delivered “exactly what we expected” during his time at Liverpool so far.
Wirtz was on the bench for the win against Aston Villa on Saturday and was also not in Slot’s starting lineup against Manchester United, Chelsea, and Everton, as he has found it challenging to impact the Premier League. However, Wirtz has started all three of Liverpool’s Champions League matches and may feature again for Xabi Alonso’s team visit on Tuesday.
