Michael Carrick takes charge of Manchester United for the first time today and he’s in at the deep end with a derby against City at Old Trafford.
United have been in poor form since Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, with Darren Flecther presiding over a draw against Burnley and a defeat to Brighton before handing the reins to old midfield sidekick Carrick.
Manchester City head into the derby on a high after beating Newcastle in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final but how much will their midweek exertions have taken out of them?
Manchester United vs Manchester City top betting tips
Pep Guardiola clearly has a superior squad to pick from and the bookies make City odds-on favourites at a best 19/20 with MGM.
However, having a free week to prepare should help United, with City putting a lot into that 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Tuesday night.
Carrick also has Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo back from the Africa Cup of Nations and United could get some joy against a City defence that continues to look unconvincing.
That’s why the bookies price BTTS at just 1/2 and even adding on over 2.5 goals only takes you to 4/5 with William Hill.
There’s more value in the stats markets and combining shots on target for Matheus Cunha and Phil Foden pays 141/100 at BetMGM.
Derbies are usually pretty fiery and, for a long-odds bet, try backing cards for Casemiro and Abdukodir Khusanov at 132/10 with Bet365.

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United
There’s a London derby today as well and two managers under pressure face off as Tottenham Hotspur host West Ham.
The Hammers are seven points adrift of safety after a dismal run of form but Nuno Espirito Santo got a much-needed boost with an extra-time win over QPR in the FA Cup last weekend.
The same can’t be said for Thomas Frank, with Spurs fans increasingly frustrated with the Dane after watching their side get dumped out of the Cup by Aston Villa.
Tottenham also sit 14th in the Premier League so Frank desperately needs a win today to turn down the heat.
The bookies make them 3/4 favourites against the freefalling Hammers but adding on under 4.5 goals boosts their price to 11/10 at Ladbrokes.
Xavi Simons will provide the creative spark for Spurs in midfield and the Dutchman is 3/1 at Bet365 for an assist.
Dunfermline vs Hibernian
It’s Scottish Cup fourth-round weekend and the standout tie today sees Hibs head to East End Park to take on Dunfermline.
The Pars are now managed by former Easter Road boss Neil Lennon and that adds a bit of spice to an intriguing cup tie.
Hibernian are in good form, with one defeat in their last seven, but it won’t be easy on a freezing January day away to Championship opposition.
The Pars won’t hold back and backing them at -1 in the card handicap pays 21/10 at Bet365.
This has the makings of an old-fashioned cup tie and I’m hoping Lennon has a go at home instead of parking the bus.
If he does, over 10 corners looks worth a punt at 11/10 with Bet365.
