England’s consistency and the lack of strong opposition in World Cup qualifying Group K meant there was no real risk in this match. Thomas Tuchel’s team only needed to overcome the challenges they faced, which they did consistently enough to secure their spot at the finals next summer with two matches remaining.
The question arose whether they could succeed on a wet midweek night when there was little interest from anyone outside their camp. The answer was yes, although the performance and the occasion were not particularly thrilling or memorable. The real challenges lie ahead.
