• Rutgers’ Offensive Efficiency: Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis has been impressive for Rutgers early in the season. Rutgers has scored at least 28 points in each of their first four games, including in last week’s loss to Iowa.
• Defensive Concerns: Rutgers’ defense has struggled coming into this matchup. They gave up 38 points to an Iowa offense that doesn’t have much of a passing game to speak of. They have to be better this week to avoid a second straight loss.
• Home Field Advantage: Minnesota has a strong home record, winning their first two home games of the season. But those wins came against Buffalo and FCS Northwestern State. This game is going to be a much tougher test for Minnesota on their home field here.

Athan Kaliakmanis (Rutgers): Kaliakmanis has been a bright spot for Rutgers, demonstrating poise and accuracy in the pocket. He has thrown seven touchdown passes and has just one interception through four games. Avoiding turnovers will be key in Rutgers’ first road conference game of the season.

Drake Lindsey (Minnesota): Lindsey has been a versatile quarterback this year, contributing both in the air and on the ground. His dual-threat capability adds an extra dimension to Minnesota’s offense. But he could only lead his team to 14 points in their loss last time out against California.

My best bet for this game is for these two teams to combine to go over the total. Big Ten games, at least in the lower levels of the conference, aren’t always known for explosive offense. But Rutgers has been effective offensively this year while struggling on defense. That should continue in this game, as we will get a high-scoring and entertaining contest. Minnesota should win at home here, but I’d rather play the total than back either side on Saturday.
