After a disappointing 2024-25 season, the New York Giants decided to move on from Daniel Jones and improve their quarterback position. The team brought in veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and also drafted Jaxson Dart.
There was speculation about who would start in Week 1, but head coach Brian Daboll has named Wilson as the starter to eliminate any controversy as training camp begins.
The Giants have no quarterback controversy this summer. Russell Wilson is the starting quarterback as they start training camp, coach Brian Daboll confirmed. “These guys will be out here competing, but Russ is our starter,” Daboll stated.
Wilson spoke about his new opportunity in New York and his mindset with his fourth team. “I’m always just focused on being the best version of me every day,” Wilson expressed. “For me, my mentality is always to be the best in the world. I don’t know anything else other than that. Just having that mentality and helping our football team win, I think that’s the big thing that I’m really highly focused on is elevating our practice, elevating our play, elevating our mentality and having a championship mentality daily.”
“And I think that we’re on that path, but we got to keep doing it daily, and it starts with me and my mindset and my energy and the way that I step into the huddle every day. And that’s what’s important.”
Given the Giants’ recent history, it’s possible that changes could happen at the quarterback position if Wilson doesn’t meet expectations, with Winston and Dart as potential options.
