Players to have eight seconds to take goal-kicks
Ifab focused on limiting disruption of play
The body responsible for football’s rules has endorsed plans to expand the video assistant referee system’s use, allowing it to intervene in second yellow card situations and corner awards, as long as it “does not slow the flow of play”.
With the game’s pace in consideration, the International Football Association Board (Ifab) also extended the “countdown principle”, where goalkeepers have eight seconds to release the ball from their hands, to now cover goal-kicks and throw-ins.
