– Resorts World Bet has informed its customers of its plans to cease operations in the state on June 30.
– Bets and deposits will be accepted until June 16.
– Withdrawals will be available until June 22.
Resorts World Bet, one of New York’s original nine online sports betting operators, is set to exit the market. The company notified its customers that it will cease operations on June 30. Having launched in New York on January 8, 2022, the platform will stop accepting bets and deposits after June 16, with withdrawals allowed until June 22.
Resorts World Bet Never Found Traction
Despite its status as an original operator, Resorts World Bet, partnered with Resorts World Casino, struggled to establish itself in New York’s expansive online sports betting market. From January 2022 to May 2025, its total handle was $263,331,848, overshadowed by larger platforms like FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics Sportsbook. FanDuel alone has amassed over $27 billion in online sports betting handle since its launch in January 2022.
Many New York patrons forwarded the announcement to Sports Betting Dime. Emails seeking comments from the New York State Gaming Commission or Resorts World were unanswered. A notice about the shutdown is now prominently displayed on Resorts World Bet’s landing page.
Latest Operator to Withdraw from New York
This marks the third online sports betting licensee to exit the state. Wynn Interactive declared WynnBET’s New York withdrawal in late 2023, pulling out from several states. The license was subsequently transferred to Penn Entertainment after purchasing WSI US, LLC, from Wynn Interactive Holdings for $25 million, leading to Penn and ESPN’s partnership that introduced ESPN BET to New York in 2024.
ESPN BET commenced operations in New York on September 27, 2024. Additionally, PointsBet transferred its online sports betting license to Fanatics Betting and Gaming in a June 2023 acquisition. PointsBet sold its U.S. assets to Fanatics for $225 million, with Fanatics Sportsbook entering the New York market in February 2024.
What’s Next?
The future of the online sports betting license remains uncertain. Resorts World might sell the license to an outside operator, contingent on New York State Gaming Commission approval. The license could fetch a high price, and operators must adhere to the state’s 51% tax on gross gaming revenues. Nevertheless, despite the high costs, operators gain immediate entry to the nation’s largest sports betting market, with potential weekly gross gaming revenues in the millions.
