Once considered a beacon of class and composure, Real Madrid is facing an identity crisis. Under the influence of club president and Super League advocate Florentino Pérez, the club’s conduct has devolved into something unrecognizable—petty, aggressive, and increasingly hostile toward match officials.
While referees in today’s football climate have come under more scrutiny than ever before—often accused of either corruption or incompetence—the behavior displayed by Madrid in recent weeks has crossed a troubling line.
