On Tuesday, John Harbaugh became the prime head-coaching target for the New York Giants after being dismissed by the Baltimore Ravens. This followed their 26-24 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18, which ended their playoff hopes. It’s the first time since 2021 that Harbaugh’s Ravens haven’t made it to the postseason.
At 63, Harbaugh holds the 12th spot in NFL history with 193 wins over 18 seasons—all with the Ravens—and led them to a Super Bowl victory in 2012. He reached the playoffs 12 times, though the team has only appeared in one AFC Championship Game since 2013.
A coach of Harbaugh’s caliber would be a significant acquisition for a Giants team that has struggled with dysfunction in recent years. The Giants have secured only seven wins over the last two seasons, achieving just one winning season in the past nine years. General manager Joe Schoen, who has been overseeing the franchise for four years, is being given another chance to rectify the situation, including spearheading the search for a new head coach.
According to the New York Post, the Giants are setting up interviews with several candidates, including former head coach Kevin Stefanski, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Annarumo, and Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. Interim head coach Mike Kafka, who replaced Brian Daboll in Week 10, will also have an opportunity to speak with the team’s leadership.
Additionally, the Giants have requested an interview with Arizona Cardinals head coach and Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Other potential candidates include former Packers and Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and former Giants linebacker and Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce.
