Matt Rempe is set to continue with the New York Rangers. The towering 6-foot-9 forward signed a two-year extension worth $975,000 annually, securing his place with the team and preventing an offer sheet from another club.
Since his NHL debut during the 2024 Stadium Series against the Islanders, where he immediately faced off with Matt Martin, Rempe has been a notable figure. At 22, he has played in 59 games over the past two seasons, tallying four goals, six assists, and 138 penalty minutes, with four game misconducts in his initial 22 games.
Last season, he set personal bests in games played, goals, and assists, while his 19.64 hits per 60 minutes were the top on the team and the sixth-highest in the NHL for those who played at least 40 games.
Under new head coach Mike Sullivan, who replaced Peter Laviolette after the Rangers missed the 2024-25 playoffs, Rempe will have the chance to secure his role. This coaching change is part of broader adjustments for the Rangers. Recently, general manager Chris Drury traded long-time center Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks, following captain Jacob Trouba’s transfer, after signaling the team’s readiness for changes.
