Premier League top scorer 2025-26: Early value picks for this season’s Golden Boot

Premier League top scorer 2025-26: Early value picks for this season's Golden Boot

With the 2025/26 Premier League season now underway, there are plenty of forwards in contention for the Golden Boot award.

Last season, Mohamed Salah claimed his fourth Golden Boot award, which put him next to Thierry Henry for most Premier League Golden Boots in history. The Egypt international is unquestionably targeting a fifth one this season to put him out on his own, but he has plenty of competition.

Let us take a closer look at the Premier League top scorer odds for the 2025/2026 season.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is understandably the runaway favourite to win the Golden Boot this season, and considering he is already on six goals for the season, it’s hard to argue against his short odds.

What could slow Haaland down this season is the lack of Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian was comfortably Haaland’s most reliable supplier, but now that he is no longer at the club, it’s unclear where the regular stream of assists is going to come from.

Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres scored more than 50 goals for Sporting Lisbon last season, which makes him a firm candidate to win the Golden Boot this season for his new club, Arsenal.

While the Swede had a quiet opening match against Man Utd, he did perform much better in his next game against Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium. He scored twice in the match and has since scored another against Nottingham Forest.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool claimed the title in the Premier League last season and, for the third time in a row, the new champion also had the Golden Boot winner lead the way. After Haaland’s two wins in a row, this time it was Salah who had the most goals in the Premier League, ending the season with 29.

This was his fourth Golden Boot, and that is a record he shares with Thierry Henry, as we mentioned at the top of the article. Salah has looked somewhat sluggish at the start of this new campaign, yet he still has two goals to his name.

Alexander Isak

With 23 goals this season, Isak has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with and one of the best forwards in the Premier League.

Isak has joined Liverpool this summer, and after failing to get any minutes under his belt during pre-season, he is already playing catch-up with the rest of the contenders. How the goalscoring dynamic with Mo Salah works will be fascinating to watch

Premier League top scorer trends

As we said already, Mohamed Salah won the award for the Premier League’s top scorer this season, which was not the first time he’s won this award:

Year

Player (Team)

Goals scored

Mohamed Salah (Liverpol)

Erling Haaland (Man City)

Erling Haaland (Man City)

M. Salah (Liverpool) & H. Son (Tottenham)

Harry Kane (Tottenham)

Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

P. Aubameyang (Arsenal), S. Mane & M. Salah (Liverpool)

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Harry Kane (Tottenham)

Harry Kane (Tottenham)

As can be deduced from the above table, it also continues a curious trend into the third successive year, whereby the Golden Boot winner also represents the title-winning side. This marks a drastic turnaround after the years spanning 2014-2022, none of which saw any Golden Boot winner also lift the title.

Other notable Premier League top-scorer trends

  • Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane are the only Englishmen to lift a Golden Boot this century.
  • Under the 38-game Premier League format (1995/96-present), the average tally from Golden Boot winners is 25.9 goals.
  • During this same period, a tally of 25 goals has been enough for the Golden Boot on 16 of a possible 30 occasions.
  • Only five of the 34 prior Premier League seasons have seen multiple winners.

Our Premier League top scorer prediction

We cannot see anyone other than Salah, Haaland, and Isak getting truly involved in the battle for the 2025/26 Premier League Golden Boot.

Our pick at this time would be Haaland, who is bound to have a bounce-back campaign after his relatively modest goalscoring record this season. The Norway international striker has gotten off to a great start, scoring a brace in his first game in the Premier League in the 4-0 win away at Wolves.
