Six Sunderland players are heading to the tournament while Chelsea, Arsenal, and Aston Villa won’t be losing any players.
The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on Sunday in Morocco. A total of thirty-two Premier League players will participate, with some clubs feeling the impact more than others.
Sunderland has had a strong start in their return to the Premier League. Their recent derby victory over Newcastle brought their tally to 26 points from 16 matches. This is more than what the three promoted clubs achieved last season – Leicester (25), Ipswich (22), and Southampton (12). However, Sunderland faces a challenge as six of their players will join their national squads for the tournament. This number accounts for nearly a fifth of all Premier League players participating and is twice as many as any other club.
