Play’n GO, a supplier of online casino games, will spearhead discussions on responsible gambling in Canada this week, marking the beginning of a series of meetings with the G7, G20, and United Nations later in the year.
This forum is part one of a three-part series, with Play’n GO also set to participate in the G20 Summit and United Nations General Assembly meetings on responsible gambling in 2025. Notably, it is the only software developer invited to these discussions.
Shawn Fluharty, Play’n GO’s Head of Government Affairs, will lead a session on June 13 at the G7 Leaders Summit in Calgary. The event will feature a consultation on gambling policy development, with participation from global leaders, regulators, neuroscientists, and public health experts as part of the Global Forum on Responsible Gaming and Gambling Policy.
The meeting aims to generate recommendations for international lawmakers on public health, youth protection, innovation, and societal prosperity, which will be delivered through policy channels.
Shawn Fluharty emphasized the importance of incorporating firsthand industry experience into policy discussions, especially as Play’n GO is the sole online gaming supplier at the G7, G20, and UN forums. Collaborating with lawmakers and regulators is crucial to establish unified safeguards that curb unlicensed activities while promoting a healthy, regulated market. Play’n GO’s involvement demonstrates its commitment to a sustainable entertainment model and maintaining the highest consumer protection standards through regulation.
Play’n GO has long been an advocate for online gambling regulation. For instance, on May 6, CEO Johan Törnqvist announced the company would never supply games to sweepstake casinos, explaining, “Sweepstakes casinos do not operate inside a regulated framework and that’s not something we support. Our commitment to regulated markets is absolute.”
