Canada is set to welcome a new tribal casino alongside a popular bingo hall in Ontario. This initiative is spearheaded by the Wauzhushk Onigum Nation in collaboration with Gateway Casinos & Entertainment.
Wauzhushk Onigum Nation to Launch New Casino and Update Bingo Hall
Wauzhushk Onigum Nation and Gateway Casinos & Entertainment plan to open a new casino next to the existing Golden Eagle Bingo Hall. Moreover, the bingo hall will undergo a significant renovation.
Officials have noted that the refurbishment of the casino and bingo hall has been under consideration for quite some time. The Wauzhushk Onigum Nation has been negotiating this project for years, aiming to modernize and expand their facilities.
The Gap radio station, which first reported on this development, mentioned that the bingo hall, once an ice hockey arena, will undergo extensive renovations. It will eventually be divided into two areas with a shared entrance.
One side of the remodeled building will remain a bingo hall with a capacity for 400 guests and additional space for community gatherings. The other section will feature the new casino. Details regarding the casino’s offerings and capacity are yet to be disclosed.
Officials anticipate that the renovated bingo hall will reopen in the latter half of 2026.
Healthcare Organization Raises Concerns Over Ontario Betting
In related news, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare in Windsor has voiced concerns regarding the swift growth of the online sports betting industry. Bill Marra, the organization’s chief executive, acknowledged that the industry’s expansion has negatively affected many people in Ontario, leading some into financial trouble.
While Marra conceded that outright banning online sports betting would be neither feasible nor practical, he advocated for enhanced measures to safeguard local players.
