Unai Emery has a knack for thrilling comebacks. The Aston Villa manager feels he improved as a coach after his Paris Saint-Germain side lost a three-goal lead to Barcelona in 2017’s Champions League game known as La Remontada. This time, Emery emerged victorious as Aston Villa overturned a deficit with two goals from Ollie Watkins, returning to the side, while Amadou Onana and Donyell Malen handed Brighton their first home defeat of the season.
Fabian Hürzeler had expressed optimism about his team’s top-four chances after three wins in four matches. Despite quickly securing a two-goal lead with Jan Paul van Hecke’s controversial goal and an own goal by Pau Torres, Brighton’s defensive weaknesses were exposed, even with Lewis Dunk marking his 500th club appearance. Hürzeler was still a youth player at Bayern Munich when Dunk debuted against Port Vale in 2010, and he continues to seek consistency after a promising start to the season.
