John Robertson, a legendary figure for Nottingham Forest and Scotland, has passed away at 72. As a crucial member of Brian Clough’s renowned team, Robertson helped elevate Forest from the second division of English football to achieve numerous significant victories, including consecutive European Cups. In the 1979 European Cup win, he provided the assist for the winning goal and scored the decisive goal in the 1980 encounter, cementing his status as one of British football’s outstanding talents. Robertson earned 28 caps for Scotland, famously netting the winning goal in a Home Championship match against England at Wembley in May 1981. Clough once referred to him as “the Picasso of our game.”
