Canadian gambling and sports betting company NorthStar Gaming Holdings announced significant leadership changes following the exit of its chief executive officer and chair, Michael Moskowitz. Two new appointments have been made to fill the gaps left by his departure.
Moskowitz Departs, Goodman Named Interim CEO
According to NorthStar Gaming’s announcement, Moskowitz is no longer the chair or CEO. The board of directors elected Corey Goodman, one of its founders and the current chief development officer and general counsel, as interim chief executive officer.
NorthStar Gaming described Goodman as highly knowledgeable and experienced, emphasizing that his discipline will ensure the business’s continued success. Goodman will work closely with the board to refine the company’s cost structure, enhance operational discipline, and drive improvements in revenue and profitability.
Moskowitz’s exit follows the publication of NorthStar’s Q3 report, which highlighted potential agreement breaches with creditors. The company expressed concerns about insufficient cash flow and liquidity to cover advertising and debt-related costs. Although NorthStar believed it might not face these issues, a potential breach could lead it to make adjustments and seek additional debt or equity financing.
Dean MacDonald Elected Chair, Barry Shafran Exits
With Moskowitz’s departure from the chair position, NorthStar appointed Dean MacDonald as the new board chair.
MacDonald commented on Goodman’s appointment, praising him as an “essential contributor” to the company and expressing full confidence in his leadership and knowledge on behalf of the board of directors.
His balanced and disciplined approach will help ensure continuity while focusing on strengthening performance and positioning NorthStar for long-term growth.

Additionally, Barry Shafran, a board member and chair of the company’s Audit Committee, has resigned. NorthStar has yet to appoint a replacement.
