On Sunday, just before the Denver Nuggets competed against the reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, at Ball Arena, the team received exciting news. Star guard Jamal Murray was named to the NBA All-Star team for the first time in his career.
Jamal Murray achieved his inaugural All-Star selection in his ninth season. Alongside Jokic, who was named a starter last week, they are the first Denver Nuggets duo selected for an All-Star Game since Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups in 2010.
Nikola Jokic, a three-time NBA MVP and consistent All-Star, was particularly thrilled for Murray.
“It feels really good,” Jokic said. “He’s been playing at a really high level the last two years. … It’s good for him to be there because he’s supposed to be there.”
Murray is enjoying a standout season with the Nuggets, which has been crucial with Jokic frequently sidelined due to injury.
Jokic expressed high regard for Murray, ranking the veteran point guard at the top of his list of best teammates.
“I wouldn’t trade him for anybody,” Jokic said. “Whenever I say who’s the top five of my career, he’s definitely No. 1. So, we have a great relationship on the floor. There’s so, so many good moments — bad moment, too — but that’s what creates good moments. So, it’s a pleasure to have him over there.”
Currently, the Nuggets hold third place in the Western Conference standings, behind the San Antonio Spurs and the Thunder. They aim for another NBA title run in the playoffs with Jokic and Murray leading the charge.
