The Brooklyn Nets, in the midst of a rebuild, have an opportunity to trade young star Cam Thomas to gather more future assets. However, no team has shown interest yet. According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, while the Nets plan to explore the market for the 24-year-old guard, there currently isn’t any demand for him.
A separation has been anticipated for a while. Thomas turned down a two-year, $30 million contract and a one-year, $9.5 million offer that included a waiver of his no-trade clause. Signing a new contract could boost Brooklyn’s returns. Instead, Thomas is on a one-year, $6 million deal, making him a free agent next summer.
Moreover, his profile as a high-volume scorer with injury concerns and a limited game lacking in rebounding and defense makes him a challenging trade. Nevertheless, Thomas is an adept scorer, and teams on the brink of success seeking offensive enhancement might consider him. In eight games this season, he averages 21.4 points per game in 28.3 minutes.
Trading Thomas would enable the Nets to concentrate on nurturing their younger players alongside top scorer Michael Porter Jr. (25.6 ppg) and center Nic Claxton. Rookie Egor Demin, Noah Clowney, and Terance Mann could benefit from increased playing time.
