Law enforcement arrested NBA veteran Marcus Morris at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport due to an outstanding warrant for writing a check while having insufficient funds.
The 35-year-old’s twin brother Markieff, who also plays in the league, posted on X about the incident, complaining about the escalation of the matter given the details of the case:
Yony Noy, Marcus Morris’ agent, also took to X to shed some light on the matter. He said that there’s no fraud whatsoever and dismissed reports that his client was using fake checks.

Noy explained that the issue is over an unpaid marker, which is when a casino extends credit to a gambler to be repaid at a later date. While the size of the marker is unclear, the agent said that law enforcement can issue an arrest warrant for any sum outstanding that is greater than $1,200:
According to the Daily Mail, it’s a Las Vegas casino where the Philadelphia native owes money. Under Nevada law, an unpaid marker is deemed to be the equivalent of writing a bad check. It’s categorized as a class D felony, with up to four years prison time and/or financial penalties being the punishment.
Morris is a 13-season veteran of the NBA and is currently a free agent after departing the Cleveland Cavaliers last year. He has been appearing on “First Take” on ESPN in the meantime.
