The Mets have signed right-handed reliever Luke Weaver, a former Yankee, to bolster their bullpen. According to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, the deal spans two years and is valued at $22 million. This move means the Mets’ bullpen in 2026 will closely resemble the Yankees’ 2025 bullpen. Weaver previously alternated as a set-up man and closer with Devin Williams for the Yankees. Last month, the Mets signed Williams to a three-year, $51 million contract to take over as closer after Edwin Diaz’s departure to the Dodgers.
Weaver, 32, transitioned from a starting role with teams like the Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Royals, Reds, and Mariners before joining the Yankees in 2023. Over the past two seasons, he became a reliable bullpen arm, with 2024 being a standout year, posting a 2.89 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 84 innings. He served as the Yankees’ closer during their AL pennant run before losing to the Dodgers in the World Series.
This past season, Weaver faced challenges, including a hamstring strain in June and pitch-tipping issues, causing his ERA to rise to 3.62. The Mets’ bullpen, which includes Williams and now Weaver, is complemented by southpaws Brooks Raley and AJ Minter, but lacks other dependable options.
