Mets Reinforcements Close as Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea Target Royals Series | AmNewYork - SCCG Management

The Mets’ starting rotation, hit by injuries, might see the return of two key players before the All-Star break if progress continues. Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea, both having served as aces at different times in the past three years, are expected to pitch in the upcoming series against the Royals in Kansas City.

Senga, currently 7-3 with a 1.47 ERA, pitched 3.2 innings in a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton on Saturday, marking his first appearance since a Grade 1 hamstring strain on June 12. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed optimism about Senga’s recovery and potential return before the All-Star break, highlighting his importance to the team.

Manaea is set for another rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday before possibly rejoining the team in Kansas City. His recovery from a strained oblique faced a two-week delay, and he recently received a cortisone shot after a loose body was found in his left elbow. He pitched 3+ innings for Double-A Binghamton last Wednesday, yielding two earned runs on six hits.

The Mets also face the absence of Tylor Megill, Griffin Canning, and Paul Blackburn due to injuries, leading to a depleted rotation. This forced a bullpen game against the Yankees and Justin Hagenman’s MLB debut in the Subway Series opener. Currently, Clay Holmes, David Peterson, and Frankie Montas remain the only established starters available.
