Jared Young, serving as DH, is 2-for-20 recently. Center fielder Tyrone Taylor is hitting .167 in his last nine games, third baseman Brett Baty is at .149, and catcher Luis Torrens is at .100 over the last 14 games. The team has sent down Francisco Alvarez and Luisangel Acuna due to struggles.
Mendoza acknowledged the reliance on top players while the bottom lineup faces difficulties, hurting the team’s scoring ability. The lack of production from No. 7 through 9 hitters, combining for a .637 OPS, is problematic as pitching strength wanes amid injuries.
Juan Soto remarked on the season’s ups and downs, noting the team’s collective effort to succeed in key moments, though results have been elusive.
