Weston McKennie remains at Juventus due to a manager change, and the US remain vulnerable to outside elements
Weston McKennie joined Juventus in 2020, shortly after Andrea Pirlo became the manager. Recently, Luciano Spalletti was appointed as Juve’s fifth manager since McKennie joined. This isn’t new for McKennie, but according to US men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino, it’s why McKennie is absent from the US squad for friendlies against Paraguay on Saturday and Uruguay on Tuesday.
Pochettino could have included McKennie, given that Spalletti quickly recognized the player’s value. Unlike previous managers who initially wanted McKennie out, Spalletti has started him in all three of his matches, with McKennie playing nearly every minute.
