With the Premiership season drawing to a close this weekend, there’s still drama to be found—even if the title was wrapped up long ago.
One of the standout betting opportunities could be backing Dundee United to overcome Aberdeen, with odds of 9/5 via McBookie.com. A win for United would see them leapfrog the Dons into fourth place.
Neither side comes into this Tannadice clash in sparkling form. Dundee United have lost all four of their post-split play-off matches, while Aberdeen have suffered three straight defeats—shipping nine goals to Celtic and Rangers, both of whom had little to play for.
That said, with United needing the points, this clash could turn into a gritty encounter—and if it does, the home side may just have the edge. The Terrors seem better equipped to deal with a physical battle compared to an Aberdeen team that’s looked increasingly fragile.
Jimmy Thelin’s men have collapsed defensively of late and appear to lack confidence across the pitch, often crumbling once they concede. That vulnerability could prove costly once again.
Of course, this won’t be a bet for the risk-averse—Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin has now lost all nine of his post-split fixtures over three seasons in charge. Still, with Aberdeen arguably the softest opposition they could hope for in this situation, United are in with a real shot at ending their season on a high.
Elsewhere, Hearts could represent good value at 13/8 with McBookie.com as they visit Kilmarnock—a match that promises an odd atmosphere. Killie have placed Derek McInnes on gardening leave following his agreement to become Hearts’ new manager, and their supporters made their displeasure known. In a move to avoid further unrest, the club opted to remove McInnes from the matchday setup.
Kilmarnock looked checked out in a 3-0 midweek loss to Motherwell, and it’s hard to imagine much motivation left in the squad. By contrast, Hearts may be eager to impress ahead of their new boss’s arrival, especially after a strong run of form under interim manager Liam Fox, following Neil Critchley’s departure.
Finally, Rangers could close out Barry Ferguson’s spell at the helm with a win at Hibs—available at evens with McBookie.com. Hibs secured third place following a midweek 2-2 draw away to St Mirren, and this fixture certainly carries the feel of an end-of-season outing.
Ferguson is expected to step aside after this match, and it appears his players want to see him off on a high. That motivation, combined with Hibs likely in celebratory mode, could tilt the balance in Rangers’ favor at Easter Road.
