Manchester United’s academy is experiencing challenging times as it undergoes changes under new leadership. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has remarked that the academy’s standards have “really slipped” recently. Known globally for developing young talent, the academy’s current state has prompted concern from those striving to cultivate future stars. The situation is unsettled following the departure of Nick Cox, who had been leading the academy and has now taken up the role of technical director at Everton. Steve Torpey, who has joined from Brentford, is his successor and is known to be aligned with United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox. Having previously worked together at Manchester City, their appointment suggests a strategic plan is in action.
