In October, Macau saw a notable increase in tourism, with over 3.47 million visitors reported. The Statistics and Census Bureau data revealed a 10.8% rise from last year, largely driven by the October Golden Week, despite early disruptions from Typhoon Matmo.
Mainland Chinese visitors were the majority, with 2.53 million arrivals, a 12% increase year-on-year. The Individual Visit Scheme saw 1.32 million users, up 22.6%. Visa arrangements also played a role, with 214,368 using the “one trip per week” measure, 97,365 on the “multiple-entry” measure, and 11,667 using the “tourist group multi-entry measure.” Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area rose by 13.8% to 1,318,837, with Zhuhai recording a 50.9% surge.
International tourism also grew, with 260,944 visitors, a 22.9% increase. Southeast Asian countries saw significant growth, with Thailand up 118.5%, the Philippines up 15.3%, and Indonesia up 24.7%. From Northeast Asia, South Korea increased by 10.6%, and Japan by 32.1%. The U.S. showed an 18.8% increase with 15,467 visitors.
Same-day visits, totaling over 2.10 million, rose 17.6%, while overnight visits slightly increased by 1.7% to nearly 1.37 million. The average stay length stayed at 1.1 days. The Golden Week holiday contributed with over 1.14 million visitors in eight days, averaging over 143,000 per day.
According to GGRAsia, in the first ten months, Macau welcomed slightly above 33.14 million visitors, a 14.1% increase from the previous year. Mainland visitors reached nearly 24.11 million, up 17.7%, while international arrivals almost hit 2.15 million, a 13.6% rise. The Macao Government Tourism Office forecasts a total of around 39 million visitors for the full year 2025.
