Arne Slot speaks to TNT Sports. “[The victory at Sunderland] was crucial because we’ve lost too many games we didn’t deserve to lose … too many points behind teams we aim to compete with … [we won] through a set piece, which is rare for us … we aim for every trophy … that is expected if you are Liverpool … we need to be realistic … we can’t risk losing more players … it’s a strong team though normally one might expect Hugo [Ekitike] and Ryan [Gravenberch] … I prefer more midfielders as they can play multiple roles … [Brighton] have a strong squad … no academy players on their bench … but if you check [gestures toward the Liverpool lineup], you notice a difference … [both teams] have faced bad luck this season.”
Pressed by TNT pundit Steve McManaman in a playful manner – “You can tell us, we won’t tell anybody” – he reveals Curtis Jones will play right-back, not Dominik Szoboszlai. “I don’t think it matters if another team knows,” he says with a faint, slightly frosty smile.
