Liverpool makes club-record offer for Leverkusen’s playmaker
Frimpong joins as Alexander-Arnold departs to Real for £10m
Liverpool has launched an ambitious effort to build on their Premier League title win by making a club record £109m bid for Florian Wirtz and signing his Bayer Leverkusen teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, for £29.5m. This occurred on the same day Liverpool agreed to let Trent Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid early in a deal valued at £10m.
Liverpool head coach, Arne Slot, sees Wirtz as a perfect fit to enhance his Premier League champions. The club swiftly began discussions with Leverkusen after the sought-after 22-year-old turned down a move to Bayern Munich. Manchester City also showed interest in the attacking midfielder but withdrew, presumably due to the financial terms involved.
