Chelsea advances to last 16 with a confident 3-0 win over ES Tunis
Playing fluid football can be challenging in stifling conditions, much like being in an overheated room with no way to adjust the temperature. Despite this, Chelsea maintained their composure in Philadelphia’s oppressive atmosphere, earning a spot in the Club World Cup last 16 with a calm 3-0 victory against Espérance.
This was an encouraging performance for Enzo Maresca, who faced little opposition after relying on his backup players to defeat the Tunisian champions. Liam Delap netted his first goal for Chelsea, and although the team finished second to Flamengo in Group D, there are advantages to advancing in this position. Notably, it avoids a matchup with Bayern Munich on Saturday—largely due to fortune rather than strategy—after Benfica capitalized on Vincent Kompany’s poor rotation decision, unexpectedly clinching the top spot in Group C with a 1-0 victory over the German champions on Tuesday.
