LeoVegas CEO Gustaf Hagman is set to step down, ceding his position to Deputy CEO Mattias Wedar. Hagman, who played a pivotal role in LeoVegas’ rise and its acquisition by MGM International, co-founded the company with Robin Ramm-Ericson in 2011. He led its expansion into international markets, navigating regulatory landscapes and overseeing growth in the Nordics, UK, and Netherlands. Under Hagman’s leadership, LeoVegas joined MGM’s branding umbrella, achieving significant milestones. Hagman expressed confidence in Wedar’s ability to continue the company’s success.
“When we launched in Sweden in 2012, the industry was in its infancy, and we were sailing in uncharted waters. With a strong team, great commitment, and a fantastic corporate culture, we navigated the course successfully and managed to become one of the leading international players – it is truly impressive,” Hagman stated.
MGM Resorts International praised Hagman’s leadership, with company president Gary Fritz noting its impact on both LeoVegas and BetMGM. “Since MGM Resorts’ acquisition of LeoVegas Group three years ago, we have consistently delivered on our established growth strategy, with a strong focus on strategic investments and the establishment of BetMGM as a leading global igaming and sports betting brand,” Fritz commented.
LeoVegas continues to evolve, focusing on global market consolidation and maintaining strong sports betting and online casino operations. The company is improving responsibility standards, like introducing deposit limit changes in the UK and joining the European Gaming and Betting Association for cross-border cooperation.
