Las Vegas Breaks Record for Wettest May in Just Six Days
Las Vegas is no stranger to extreme weather records, but 2025 has brought an especially remarkable milestone. After setting its all-time high temperature record of 120 degrees last year, the city has now experienced its wettest May ever—only six days into the month.
A powerful thunderstorm brought the total rainfall to 1.45 inches at Harry Reid International Airport, a significant leap from the previous May rainfall record of 0.96 inches, which had stood since 1969.
The intense downpour led to localized flooding across the city. Drone footage captured by KTNV showed streets inundated with water, particularly at the intersection of Amigo Street and Robindale Road. Reports from Las Vegas Locally also highlighted flooded parking garages throughout the area.
In addition to the rain, parts of the Las Vegas Valley even saw snow and hail on Monday, adding to the unusually severe weather for the typically dry region.
Meanwhile, stormy skies seem to mirror the outlook for some of the city’s major casino operators. MGM Resorts International recently eliminated in-person concierge services at two Las Vegas hotels, resulting in staff layoffs. And stock prices for MGM, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts have taken significant hits so far in 2025.
