The Los Angeles Lakers aimed to enhance their center position during the NBA offseason and have seemingly achieved this by signing former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton.
The Lakers and Ayton have agreed to a two-year deal.
Free agent center Deandre Ayton has agreed to sign a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal includes a player option.
Ayton provides the Lakers with a more reliable option in various aspects at the center position, despite not fully meeting the expectations of a top draft pick.
He is the first player to average at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in each of his first seven NBA seasons since Dwight Howard. Ayton is also among four players to average at least 10 points and 10 rebounds over the past seven seasons, alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, Rudy Gobert, and Nikola Vucevic.
Besides signing Ayton as the new starting center, the Lakers have re-signed last season’s starting center Jaxson Hayes on a one-year deal.
Free agent center Jaxson Hayes agreed on a one-year deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Adding Ayton and bringing back Hayes are seen as positive moves for the Lakers, who have otherwise faced challenges during the free agency period.
