The New York Jets’ quarterback situation is more chaotic than ever. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced Wednesday that Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields will not practice due to injuries. Taylor, starting his third consecutive game, suffered a groin injury in the first quarter of the loss to the Miami Dolphins and missed the rest of the game. Fields is managing a knee issue, making his return uncertain following his benching.
After Taylor’s exit, rookie Brady Cook took over, completing 14 of 30 passes for 163 yards and two interceptions. Cook, an undrafted rookie from Missouri, is now receiving all first-team reps as Taylor and Fields are evaluated this week.
“I thought he did a pretty good job,” Glenn said of Cook. “It was a tough situation with Tyrod going down, but he came in and did well. He’s smart, tough, and competitive.” Glenn did not confirm if Cook will start against the Jaguars but noted that first-team reps are beneficial for him.
To bolster depth, the Jets re-signed Adrian Martinez to the practice squad. Martinez, previously with the team during the preseason, joined the San Francisco 49ers before being released in November.
