James Maddison suffered a severe knee injury during Tottenham’s final pre-season match against Newcastle in Seoul, ending in a draw. The midfielder was stretchered off in pain after collapsing without contact late in the game. This injury impacts the same knee that caused him to miss the end of last season, including the Europa League final. Tottenham’s head coach, Thomas Frank, commented, “Sometimes in life and football, things can be both beautiful and brutal – that’s what we got today. Maddison’s injury looks bad, but the scenes for Son Heung-min from his teammates and Newcastle players were incredible.” Meanwhile, departing Son Heung-min received a standing ovation when substituted.
