Jamaica plans to transform Rose Hall into an official casino zone, offering several advantages, according to tourism minister Edmund Bartlett.
At the 64th Annual General Meeting of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) on Friday, the minister announced an anticipated $4 billion investment to develop the zone into a premier destination for tourists seeking various activities including gambling.
The announcement has already spurred the development of over 2,000 new hotel rooms, as the hospitality industry anticipates a surge in tourists drawn by the new casino opportunities.
Bartlett highlighted the upcoming Moon Palace mega hotel, featuring a 33-storey tower, marking an unprecedented project for Jamaica.
The minister explained that the Hard Rock Hotel will also be situated nearby, confirming the area as Jamaica’s casino zone. More groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled for July as developers expedite the casino zone’s completion to attract visitors.
Additionally, Bartlett emphasized the importance of fair treatment and compensation for Jamaican workers employed in the sector. While several casinos are planned, their specific details will be announced at a later date.
