Grealish to Return after Underwhelming Season, Says Manager
City faces Morocco’s Wydad AC in Philadelphia on Wednesday
Pep Guardiola explained that Jack Grealish was left out of Manchester City’s Club World Cup team after candid talks but suggested he could remain at City and regain his form as the player instrumental in securing the treble.
Grealish made 35 appearances for City in the previous season, starting only 16 times, with six starts in the league. His reduced role was highlighted by his absence in the 1-0 FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace. Guardiola addressed the decision to omit Grealish as City embarks on the inaugural 32-team cup campaign, beginning against Wydad AC at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on Wednesday at midday local time.
