Following Donald Trump’s ban on Iranians entering the US, a co-host of the event, opinions vary on the next steps. “It’s offensive for any football fan to be excluded from the World Cup, not just Iranians,” remarks Ali Rezaei from Tehran’s Borna News Agency. Iran’s national team qualified in March for the 2026 World Cup, set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Citizens in Tehran and other cities have recently faced numerous challenges, yet the entry ban is still a sore point, especially as Iranians have traditionally struggled to gain US entry. “The US government’s disagreements with Iran’s regime shouldn’t lead to discrimination against Iranian citizens,” says Behnam Jafarzadeh from Varzesh3. “If someone hasn’t engaged in illegal activity, why penalize them? The issue extends beyond the World Cup—this policy needs a broader reevaluation.”
