November 23, 2025, Elmont, New York — The New York Islanders clinched a 1-0 victory in a shootout against the Seattle Kraken at UBS Arena, marking their first shootout win in over a year. After Freddy Gaudreau of the Kraken scored the opener against Islanders’ goalie David Rittich, Bo Horvat kept the Islanders in the game by scoring with a swift wrist shot. Kyle Palmieri secured the win in the subsequent round. “It was nice to see Bo score that one because no one wanted to go back in the dressing room with a loss, even in a shootout,” said head coach Patrick Roy. “Then [Palmieri] finished the deal right after that.”
This was just the third time in history that the Islanders won a shootout 1-0, ending a five-game shootout losing streak. The Islanders, now 13-8-2, have struggled offensively, scoring only once in open play over their last two games. “It’s weird, back-to-back earlier starts, no pre-game skates,” Palmieri mentioned. “We’re excited to be back home in front of our fans on a weekend.”
Goalie David Rittich was solid, stopping all 19 shots during regulation and overtime, plus three more in the shootout. “David was outstanding out there,” Roy noted. “It was a great team effort on a back-to-back, tough schedule.”
