On November 8, 2025, in New York City, New York Islanders center Bo Horvat celebrated with defenseman Matthew Schaefer after scoring his second goal against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The moment seemed inevitable when Horvat received a pass from Kyle Palmieri and scored against New Jersey Devils goalie Jacob Markstrom, tying the game 6:55 into the second period with his sixth goal in six games.
Horvat’s start to the 2025-26 season has been extraordinary, even for him. Known for being a consistent 30-goal scorer, he has already netted 12 goals in 16 games, a pace that could see him reach 61 goals for the season. To illustrate his impressive start, Horvat reached 12 goals much earlier this season compared to last, where he only hit this mark on January 5, finishing that season with 28 goals.
His remarkable performance is largely attributed to his potent shooting ability, which has astounded teammates. Seven of his goals this season have been from mid-range, between 29 and 43 feet from the goal, with only Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche surpassing him with eight in that area. “He might be the best shooter in the world right now, and it’s not just luck,” remarked Islanders forward Mathew Barzal. “His shot is truly world-class. It’s a combination of skill and hard work.”
Horvat shared with amNewYork in October that he’s capitalizing on more shooting opportunities, attempting an average of 5.8 shots per game, compared to just over four in previous seasons. “He’s shooting with a lot of confidence,” said head coach Patrick Roy. The Islanders have not had a 50-goal scorer since Pierre Turgeon in 1992-93, with Mike Bossy being the only player in the team’s history to score 60 goals in a season, doing so four times. Horvat’s current pace suggests he might join their ranks.
