As the investigation into Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier unfolds, investigators have revealed new findings. According to ESPN, a single bettor won 30 wagers on Rozier, amassing nearly $13K.
Terry Rozier Is Under Federal Investigation
Rozier has faced scrutiny over allegations of fixing NBA games to benefit an illegal betting ring. As of last week, he had not been cleared and remained under federal investigation.
The suspicious activity involving Rozier first surfaced during a March 2023 game between his former team, the Charlotte Hornets, and the New Orleans Pelicans. Unusual betting patterns were noticed, coinciding with Rozier’s departure from the game due to an injury.
The high volume of prop bets suggested bettors might have had insider information, prompting the investigation. New information shows that one individual placed 30 bets on Rozier.
ESPN Says One Bettor Placed 30 Wagers
ESPN obtained documents claiming that one person placed 30 wagers on Rozier in 46 minutes. Related to the controversial game between the Hornets and the Pelicans, all bets were successful, netting the winner approximately $13,017.70.
Further details indicate the largest bet was $2,700 on Rozier going under 5.5 rebounds. ESPN found that 29 wagers were placed at a self-serve kiosk, while one was placed at a sportsbook counter.
Harrah’s Gulf Coast, where the bets were made, initially refused to pay the winnings due to suspicions of insider information and match-fixing. However, as sportsbook officials couldn’t prove any wrongdoing to the Mississippi Gaming Commission, they were instructed to pay the winnings.
ESPN was unable to contact the winner.
For context, Rozier ended the game with five points, four rebounds, and two assists, leading to many under wagers winning and raising significant suspicions. However, the NBA found no violation of league rules at that time.
