Authorities in the Philippines are intensifying efforts to locate a prominent businessman, Charlie “Atong” Ang, now targeted by an Interpol Red Notice.

The 68-year-old gambling mogul is the chief suspect in the disappearance of at least 34 individuals between 2021 and 2022, allegedly linked to cockfighting, or “sabungeros.”
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) called for an international alert in January as part of broader efforts to find Ang.
Despite last week’s 10 search operations, DILG secretary Juanito Victor Remulla confirmed Tuesday that Ang’s location is still unknown.
“We’re serious here,” Remulla stated, stressing Ang is considered armed and dangerous. Recently, the reward for information leading to his arrest increased from PHP 10 million ($172,700) to PHP 20 million ($345,200).
Ang faces several arrest warrants, accused of “kidnapping, serious illegal detention, and kidnapping with homicide” related to the missing sabungeros.
Rumors suggest he’s left the country for places like Cambodia, but Remulla indicates intelligence reports show he’s still in the Philippines.
Hotlines and Ongoing Raids
The manhunt is a primary law enforcement focus. Officials established dedicated hotlines, gathered tips, and coordinated raids to find Ang. The Interpol Red Notice alerts global police agencies for his potential arrest before extradition.
Ang isn’t new to attention. Former President Rodrigo Duterte allegedly dubbed him the “number one gambler” in his hometown and sought his help with illegal gambling issues in the country.
In 2000, Ang was embroiled in a scandal involving former President Joseph Estrada, accused of channeling gambling funds during a period that led to Estrada’s impeachment.
While Ang is still at large, his 20 co-accused, including former and current police officers, are in custody.
Authorities stress that capturing Ang is a top priority, describing the search as a high-stakes national law enforcement effort with significant public interest.
