Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana to Donate $1 Million to Support Gary Police Department in 2025

Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana has committed to donating $1 million to the Gary Police Department in 2025. The funding will be used to upgrade and modernize the police fleet. The Gary Common Council recently approved the initiative during a council meeting.

Hard Rock & City of Gary Collaborate to Provide 23 New Police Vehicles

As part of a joint public safety initiative, the City of Gary plans to match Hard Rock’s donation with an additional $500,000 from its own budget. This combined $1.5 million investment will be directed toward purchasing 23 new police vehicles next year. According to the Chicago Tribune, Councilwoman Mary Brown noted that this donation marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between the casino and the city. Beginning in 2026, Hard Rock will contribute $500,000 annually through 2029, with the city matching the amount, allowing for the purchase of 15 new vehicles each year.

The resolution passed unanimously in a 7-0 vote, with all present council members supporting the initiative. Council President Lori Latham emphasized the importance of the casino’s ongoing support for the city’s public services, describing Hard Rock as a vital partner in Gary’s development.

Ongoing Community Support from Hard Rock Casino

Since opening in May 2021, Hard Rock Casino has played a significant role in bolstering various community initiatives in Gary. Earlier in the year, the casino donated $500,000 to the Gary Community Schools Corporation to renovate school facilities and enhance security systems.

Hard Rock Invests in Revitalization and Economic Development Projects

Last year, Hard Rock contributed an additional $3 million to help clear dilapidated structures along Broadway in downtown Gary. This effort was part of a broader state-supported economic revitalization plan. Mayor Eddie Melton praised the donation as a pivotal step in transforming neglected parts of the city.

In a further sign of its long-term commitment, Hard Rock and city officials received approval from the Lake County Board of Commissioners to move forward with a major development project. Plans include a 145,000-square-foot convention center near the casino, a Hard Rock Hotel, two additional hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets.

By investing in public safety, education, and urban development, Hard Rock Casino continues to solidify its role as more than just an entertainment venue — it is emerging as a key partner in Gary’s ongoing renewal.
